Best Breakfast Ever!

... or at least it hit the spot this morning!

So simple, yet so delicious. Toasted French bread, nutella, fresh sliced strawberries, and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. That's all you need for a sugary, chocolately, crunchy breakfast delight.

Now go make one for yourself. It is great for dessert or a midnight snack too!

Window Display

For the next two weeks my bags are going to be displayed in the windows of Parts and Labour in Downtown Austin. But part of having my bags there was that I had to come up and execute the display. I decided to make use of things I already had on hand and spray painted left over pieces of wood with different color spray paint. I then took those pieces of colored wood and nailed them to two horizontal pieces of untainted wood long enough to fit in the window.

All that was left was to hang the display and hang my bags off of some nails that I half nailed in at various spots.

Overall it was cheap and does the job. And when it is time to take the display down, I plan on turning it vertically and using it as a trellis in my garden. Thoughts?

Melons

It has been raining here for quite a while which has given me a nice break from having to go out a water myself. This week two of my melons ripened, the orange one is a regular cantaloupe, and the green one is a rocky green ford. Last year I got 15 or do melons, but this year I have only had 4. I think I haven't been watering enough for them. But here are a few pictures of the cantaloupe from when it first developed on the vine, to right after I picked it, to when I cut it up to eat.

In other garden news, my peppers are not producing at all. No flowers are even showing up, let alone peppers developing. I think that it is time to try the Epsom salt solution spray to stimulate fruiting. I will let you all know how it goes.

Week in Recap

Sorry for the absence of posts this last week. My best friend came into town with her two girls and we have been busy! We went to Zilker park on Monday and played at the playground, rode the train that goes around the park, and had snow cones. Then we had dinner one of my favorite kid friendly playground restaurants, Phill's Ice House. The kids played while we ate and talked.

Tuesday was filled with a morning trip to Whole Foods for breakfast, a visit with my friends friend and her triplet 9 month old girls, an afternoon at the local bounce house, and slime making (just pour white glue in a cup and slowly stir in liquid starch a bit at a time until it gets thick a slime like, then color with food coloring). Wednesday we took a day trip to my hometown of Wimberley to swim in the river and have a picnic lunch. For dinner we stopped by my number one go to restaurant with a playground (Doc's Backyard) and after playing for about an hour, Madeline then proceeded to slip on the picnic table a bust her eye. Luckily there was no cut, but her eye turned black and swelled immediately. Poor baby! :(

Anyway, my friend and her girls left this morning and we are back to our normal routine, so hopefully I will find the time to show you some of the yummy food I made this week (white chocolate, nutmeg, and cinnamon popcorn and potato, bacon, and corn chowder anyone?)

Cherry Blossom Cake

I was just looking through old photos and I found this one of the cake I made my SIL for her birthday last year. I used the Wilton Nature Fondant mold to make all the decorations and then used royal icing to stick them to the fondant covered cake. It was super simple to do and I love how it turned out. What do you think? If you want to try doing small fondant decorations for a cake or cupcakes, I recommend getting one of these molds. They have quite a few different types of designs. And no, I am not getting any compensation for this post, I just really like the cake I made. :)

Mexican Salad

Tonight for dinner I made a healthy Mexican salad with ranch dressing. I am sure that it would have been much better with some creamy jalapeƱo ranch dressing, but I was too lazy to make that, so I just went with the bottled stuff I had in the fridge. Come to think of it a cilantro lime vinaigrette would be yummy too.

Anyway, to make the salad I first cooked ground turkey with chopped onions, green bell peppers, and tomatoes and seasoned it with ground cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then I topped some fresh salad greens with black beans, the ground turkey, pieces of Colby jack cheese, avocado, tomatoes, and crunchy corn tortilla strips that I fried up.

Funny enough, I made Madeline a taco with the turkey, beans, and avocado, but when she saw my salad, she said "I want a plate like that!" and proceeded to eat the salad off my plate. I am so glad she is a good eater.

Breakfasts

This weekend I made some yummy powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar beignets, scrambled eggs, and fruit salad. It was yummy!

Then Madeline and I proceeded to make a play-doh "breakfast" of waffles with butter, bacon, eggs, and fruit salad. Is it just me or does the playdoh breakfast look yummy?
