This weekend Brandon, Madeline, and I went to Houston to visit my friend for her 30th birthday. It was so much fun! On Friday we drove in and Madeline slept almost the whole way. That made the drive quite nice. We met up with my friend and her husband and two girls for dinner (see Brandon's huge steak sandwich!) which was followed my some yummy cupcakes. After dinner we hung out for a while and played some trivia games.
In Saturday we headed to Galveston for some beach time (and when you see the beach pictures, please don't judge, Texas beaches are quite gross, but they are quick and easy for us to get to). I bought some more cupcakes for the birthday festivities from the Houston cupcake shop Crave Cupcakes. They were so good! Madeline had a great time playing in the sand and I actually got her into the water a bit which was a surprise to me because she is really not a fan of fun water activities. On the way back to Houston at 5pm Madeline passed out and slept until this morning. She was wiped!
Today we had a nice family breakfast and went to the museum of natural science before heading back home. All in all it was a nice little break. But I am glad to be home, and I think my garden was happy to see me! I harvested a huge family size serving bowl full of tomatoes and peppers plus one zucchini the size of my forearm and a yummy Mediterranean cucumber which I ate for dinner.
In other news, Madeline starts her four day a week summer mothers day out program on Tuesday. I am sure that I will get a good amount accomplished when she is in "school" but I am still apprehensive about her going that many days a week. I guess we will just try it out and see how it goes.
Here are a few pictures from our trip.
