Today I will show you all how to make your own custom iron on fabric wall decals. Yes, that is right iron-on fabric for you walls. And the best thing? It is completely removeable and won't harm your walls or paint!
First things first, you will need the following:
Idea of what you want to make and a printer with paper to print out your design
quilting weight cotton of your choice
Steam-a-Seam2 Double Stick Fusible Web
I chose to create my daughters name (Madeline) in fabrics to match the colors of her room (shades of orange, coral, and pink). First I found a font that I liked and printed out the letters individually to the size that I wanted and cut them out of the printer paper to create a stencil.
Next cut out a piece of your fabric and a piece of the fusible web to the appx. size of your design. remove one side of the fusible web paper and place face down on the back of the fabric and iron on according to the directions of the fusible web package. Once your have ironed the fusible web in place, place your stencil on the paper backing still on the fusible web adhered to the fabric and trace. Cut out your design. Make sure to flip your design over when you trace, so that the image is not backwards when you turn it around.
Now you have your image cut out in the fabric with the fusible web backing. When you are ready to put it on the wall, remove the second paper backing from the fusible web and stick on the wall where you want it to go. The fabric will be slightly sticky, this will give it a temporary bond with the wall while you are securing it in place.
Now, take you iron on the cotton setting a gently go over the fabric adhering it in place. Don't push to hard or leave the iron on the fabric too long, just a few seconds should bond the fabric to the wall. Tada! You are done and have just created your very own fabric wall decal! The decal will stay up for years to come, until you are ready for a change. When you are ready to remove the decal, just peel it away and your wall will be perfectly preserved underneath. No damage! Now go get creating!
